This article is intended for independent contractor or ShieldHub users the need to purchase a background check as a condition of engagement.
ShieldHub provides independent contractors and gig workers secure place to purchase a criminal background check as a condition of employment or engagement.
Once you register for ShieldHub, there will be a section of the dashboard, "Purchase a Background Check"
You will need to have a camera phone to take a selfie and a valid form of government ID with your photo, for example a driving license, passport or state ID.

The price of the background check is determined by the term of the subscription (1 or 2 years) and background check locations (New York vs. Non New York). Please select the background check that best meets your requirements. Residents of New York fees are higher due to local and state government fees that are required to be paid in order to access court records.
Note: When purchasing a background check, the Consumer Reporting Agency will perform a search of known addresses. If your residential history within the last 7 years includes any county within the state of New York, you will be required to purchase a New York background check. Failure to do so may result in delays.
The Purchase Process
Once you select a background check, click the Purchase Background Check button in order to start the purchase process. The system will then open a window and lead you through an easy step-by-step purchasing process.
Before you can begin you must review and accept the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) summary of rights.
at the bottom you will be required to certify that you accept the disclosures in order to proceed.
Step 3: Provide and Update Your Basic Information
To facilitate the purchase, ShieldHub will pre-populate those fields that are filled in from your ShieldHub profile. Please update the remaining information then click the Next button to proceed.
Note: Your Social Security Number (SSN/ID) and Date of Birth are required to perform an accurate background check. Failure to submit accurate information may result in inaccurate results and require the purchase of a new criminal background check report. The consumer reporting agency is not required to offer a refund when incorrect information has been submitted.
Step 2: Provide Your Current Address Information
Step 3: Sign the Disclosures
On the next step you will be required to sign two disclosures. Please note, that these are on two different tabs at the top of the disclosure. You will are required to sign both disclosures in order to proceed.

Step 4: Review
Review the results before you submit them. Once submitted, you will be unable to make additional corrections.
If you do need to make any corrections, click the navigation on the left to return to that section and make edits. Alternatively, the Home button will return you to the first step.
Step 5: Confirmation
The final step will confirm that the order has been placed. You can also download copies of any of the disclosures you have signed. Simple close the window by clicking the close button to return to ShieldHub.
Once you close the window, you should now see that your background check is in-progress. Please allow 3-5 business days to complete.
Once completed, you will receive an email alert with your ShieldScoreTM. You can download the final results from your ShieldHub account.
