Tips for Successful ID Verification

Modified on Mon, 19 Aug at 4:30 PM

When completing a background check you will be required to complete two steps for identity verification. To avoid additional fees and processing time, please complete both steps according to the instructions below. You will need to have a camera phone available to take "selfies" and a valid form of government ID with your photo.

Acceptable identification includes non-expired driver's licenses, passports, or state issued identification that include a legible barcode on the back of the ID. IDs that are damaged or heavily worn may not be acceptable and subject to resubmission with a different form of identification.

IMPORTANT: Uploaded image file format must be JPEG, JPG, TIFF, or TIF. PDF file types are not acceptable. Scanned images of either the Selfie or ID are also not acceptable.

STEP 1

You will be required to provide two (2) photos of your face or “selfies” (one neutral expression and one smiling). When you take the photos, you will need to be in an area with good lighting so the photos will be crisp and not blurry. We highly recommend using a smart phone and not just a device with a camera.

Selfies Image Tips

  • Images must be live; no pre-taken or scanned images.
  • Professional headshots are not acceptable; images must be taken live.
  • A solid background is recommended to avoid intrusive objects.
  • Hold the mobile device at face/eye level.
  • The frame will be from shoulders up.
  • Good lighting to avoid shadows and glares.
  • No hats or glasses.

STEP 2

You will be required to provide a picture of  the front and back of your government-issued photo ID.

ID Image Tips

  • Hold phone over the ID to avoid glares and shadows - the image will need to be visible and legible.
  • Do not hold Driver’s License or Passport
  • Place Driver’s License or Passport on a flat, dark solid color surface.
  • No flash.
  • Scanned images are not acceptable.
