Review and Approve Your Background Check

If you recently received an Action: Background Check Details email or text message that your background check score has been completed or changed it indicates we have received your background check and ShieldScore results from the Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA) of record.

You will be required to login to your account to review and approve your background check before it is active on the ShieldHub Network. Once your ShieldScore has been activated, you can accept invites from clients and partners.


As the candidate, it is your responsibility to review your background check for accuracy before approving and activating their ShieldScore. Corrections can be submitted to the consumer reporting agency for review.

Approving Your Background Check


Step-By-Step Guide


Step 1: Email Alert

  • You received an email alert letting notifying you of background check completion.
  • This alert can occur with new background checks, or existing background checks with resulting score changes.


Step 2: Login to Your ShieldHub Account

  • Login to your ShieldHub account at portal.shieldhub.com using your email and password.
  • For Security Purposes you may be required to complete 2-factor authentication to your verified email.  Depending on your email service provider, the verification email may take several moments.



Step 3: Getting Started

  • Welcome Modal Scan
    Once you login, you should be presented with a large modal screen that will begins the review process. Simply click the Get Started Button to proceed.




  • My Background Checks Alert
    If you login and the modal screen is not presented, or it was dismissed by clicking the close button on the top right you can return to the review process by clicking the alert that should be in the My Background Check section of your main dashboard. Clicking Review & Approve will open the modal to start the review process.


Step 4: Acceptable Use/Terms and Conditions

  • Acceptable Use
    On the next screen you will be asked to review and accept the terms of conditions. Please read these carefully as it outlines important rights you have under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.


Step 5: Review and Accept Your Background Check and ShieldScore™


  • Your ShieldSccore™
    Your ShieldScore, as calculated by the Consumer Reporting Agency from your criminal history. Scores can range from IC01+ to IC04. For more information, visit the article: What is a ShieldScore?

  • Download & Review Report
    • Click this button to download and review your background check report.
    • The downloaded PDF is marked "Pending Approval" until you accept your ShieldScore™

  • Accepting Your ShieldScore

    • Select the I accept my ShieldScore option if you with to accept and activate your background check and ShieldScore as presented.

      Click the Activate My ShieldScore button
      Congratulations! Your ShieldScore is now active within the ShieldHub network. You can now share your Shield and back check data with unlimited clients and partners.


    • Select I do not accept my ShieldScore if you feel that the background check and score has errors and requires audit and review.

Step 6: Invitations & Sharing Preferences

Now that you have accepted your ShieldScore, you will be presented with some invitations options to start building your network.


  • Pending Invitations
    Easily accept anything pending applications.

  • Sharing Preferences
    Update your network sharing preferences. For more information about your sharing preferences visit: Manage Privacy & Personal Data Settings



Step 7: Submitting Corrections

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) you are entitled to accurate background check reporting. ShieldHub has included a way for you to easily notify the CRA of a correction.




You will be presented with correction screen with details on how to contact your Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA) with key details including your Order or Profile ID. To submit 


As a candidate you may choose one of the following:

  • Contact the Consumer Reporting Agency Directly from the contact information provided
  • Submit Via Form
    • Fill out the reasons in the provided textbox.
    • Click the Submit Error Button
    • A copy of the email will be sent to the CRA, and CC you as the candidate. 


As the candidate, it is your responsibility to resolve any issues or errors in your background check report.
